Foxes shine at TwilightThursday, October 5 2017 - Naperville Twilight Invitational
In a stacked field that featured many of the state’s best teams, the Foxes rose to the occasion and competed well at the Naperville Running Company Twilight Invitational Oct. 4. The team placed second in girls varsity and ninth in the boys varsity race.
The girls team closed the gap from their previous matchup with IL No. 1 Naperville North but were still defeated by the Huskies 57-84. Six of the top seven teams — and nine of the top 25 overall — in Illinois toed the line. and Lone varsity senior Alyssa Edwards (5th, 17:00.1) led YHS, and was followed by a strong performance by freshman Helena Kleronomos (10th, 17:11.6). Emily Eberhart (14th, 17:35.3) had a bounce-back meet after a DNF Sept. 23, and Nicole Greyer (22nd, 17:52.6) showed she’s returning to her pre-injury form. Olivia Borowiak (33rd, 18:05.9) closed the Foxes’ scoring, followed by Sam Moreno (38th, 18:17.7) and Sara Klemm (45th, 18:28.0). The Foxes also celebrated an individual championship in the girls fr/so race, as Hailey Simmons won the race by eight seconds in 18:34.7.
The boys race was equally stacked, as top-ranked Downers Grove North edged second-ranked Neuqua Valley 56-57. In total, eight of the top 25 teams in Illinois raced at the Twilight. The Foxes were led by four seniors: Zack Price (34th, 15:27.6), Ben Summers (42nd, 15:38.7), Patrick Black (44th, 15:40.7) and Matt Cox (60th, 15:53.9). Freshman Ivan Westcott (62nd, 15:56.3) was the final scorer for YHS, and Eric Naumann (69th, 16:07.9) and Ben Tholen (78th, 16:21.6) rounded out the varsity seven.
