Foxes sweep Minooka Regional

The Foxes boys and girls teams each won titles at the 2017 IHSA Minooka Regional Oct. 21.

Ben Summers (15:52) won the individual title as YHS boys won its first 3A Regional title. The Foxes had previously won consecutive regional titles at the 2A level every year between 2007-2015. Summers' time was nearly a minute faster than his 16:46 effort on the same course during the Minooka Flight Invitational Sept. 16. Freshman Ivan Westcott also cracked the top 10, placing 10th in 16:24. Matt Cox (16th, 16:34), Ben Tholen (18th, 16:36), Patrick Black (20th, 16:36), Eric Naumann (33rd, 17:01) and Alex Loos (42nd, 17:19) contributed to the team title with 65 points. Lockport placed second with 69, followed by Normal Community (100), Minooka (101), and Joliet Central (129). 

On the YHS girls also won its first 3A Regional title, and first since 2015 (2A), behind six runners in the top 10. Alyssa Edwards battled for the individual title before settling for runner-up honors in 17:45. She was followed by Helena Klernoromos (3rd, 18:17), Emily Eberhart (4th, 18:44), Hailey Simmons (6th, 18:54), Sara Klemm (7th, 18:57) and Olivia Borowiak (10th, 19:07). Mady Klebenow toughed out her finish to place 47th in 21:06. The Foxes scored a scant 22 points to easily win the meet. Minooka (42), Lockport (74), Joliet West (156) and Moline (166) rounded out the top five.

The Foxes have now qualified for the Granite City Sectional at the Wilson Park Ice Rink Oct. 28. The girls run at 10:30 a.m., followed by the boys at 11:30 a.m.
