Three YHS girls broke the school record en route to a runner-up finish at the 2018 IHSA State Meet at Detweiller Park in Peoria.

The Yorkville girls have qualified for the state meet 11-straight years, with the 2008 team the first to ever qualify in school history. Since 2009, the Foxes have either won or were second (2009, 2010, 2016, 2017, 2018), including a stretch of five-consecutive state titles from 2011-2015.

Helena Kleronomos led the team with a fifth-place finish overall, and setting a new YHS school record of 16 minutes, 35.5 seconds. She was followed closely by Kailey Fox (10th, 16:43.65) and Emily Eberhart (13th, 16:46.75). All three broke Alexis Grandy's school record of 17:01 set in 2015, and all three earned All State honors.

Hailey Simmons (30th, 17:15) and Olivia Borowiak (53rd, 17:39) rounded out the scorers for the Foxes, while Anna Hunter (81st, 18:02) and Sara Klemm (85th, 18:04) ran varsity at the state meet.

Importantly, immense improvement was on display for many of the Foxes.

Kleronomos ran 17:05 in 2017 and improved to 16:35 this year, while Eberhart went from 17:12 in 2017 to 16:46 in 2018.

Fox had perhaps the most dramatic improvement, running 19:39 for 88th place in the 2017 Class 1A state meet for Peotone High School, to running 16:42 for the Foxes on Saturday.

Simmons ran 17:53 in 2017 and 17:15 in 2018.

Borowiak, in her fourth-consecutive state meet for the Foxes, ran 18:53 in 2015, 17:50 in 2016, 17:49 in 2017 and 17:39 in 2018.

Anna Hunter ran in her first state meet this year, but was able to drop her time throughout the year from 20:31 at the YHS Invite to 18:02 at state.

Although Klemm did not improve on her 17:53 from 2017, she was close, and has dropped her times considerably throughout the season; starting at 18:49.5 at the YHS Invite, she has consistently been a top-five scorer all season for the Foxes.

Naperville North showed once again it is among the best teams in the nation as it won its third-consecutive state title, ninth overall, and fifth since 2012. The Huskies scored 80 to Yorkville's 87 and Downers Grove South's 127. Lyons (191) was fourth, followed by Minooka (5th), Wheaton Warrenville South (239), New Trier (253), Oswego (289), Batavia (311) and Oak Park-River Forest (318) rounding out the top 10. Yorkville will join Minooka and Oswego in the Southwest Prairie Conference in the 2019-20 school year.

This year's team was historically good when compared to the 10 other Yorkville girls teams that have qualified for state since 2008. In a mock meet, taking only the times posted at the IHSA State Meet, the 2018 team looks to be the fastest team in school history. A history that again includes five state titles, five runners-up, one national qualifier and numerous individual all-staters.
